Head of Claims

Alessandra is Head of Claims with over 20 years’ London Market experience across Financial Lines, Casualty, Life Sciences, Healthcare, and Environmental risks. She is a qualified lawyer (Italy) and ACII qualified.

Alessandra has built and led high-performing teams, established governance and reporting frameworks, and created the claims function from the ground up (manuals, processes, recruitment). Her track record includes complex and large-loss handling across multiple jurisdictions (focus: US, Canada, Australia), TPA/DCA oversight, operational MI and Board/Reserving Committee reporting, and Lloyd’s regulatory engagement. She partners closely with Underwriting, Actuarial, Compliance and Data & Analytics to drive performance, and engages proactively with clients and brokers on value proposition and service. She speaks English, Italian, and Spanish.

Prior to Arch, Andy spent 23 years at Chaucer Syndicate, firstly working within the Treaty and Political Risk underwriting teams for 10 years, then subsequently focusing on the Political Violence and Crisis Management market. Andy has twice built two of the largest and most profitable portfolios in the Lloyd’s market, during a period of substantial market change, and served as LMA Political Violence Chairperson for 5 years prior to departing Chaucer in 2021.

Andrew is a highly experienced Senior Claims Adjuster with over 25 years in the Lloyd’s market, specialising in high-value and complex claims across D&O, Financial Institutions, Professional Indemnity, Cyber, Environmental, Media, and Casualty lines.

His career includes long tenure at Markel, where he led on multimillion-pound claims, and more recent roles at Crawford & Co and Hamilton, handling global exposures and discontinued business. Andrew has particular expertise in fraud detection, mediation, and litigation strategy, with a proven track record of negotiating large settlements across multiple jurisdictions. He has LLb (Hons) Law and an Advanced Certificate with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, and has also recently completed the Certified Cyber Insurance Specialist qualification. Andrew is recognised for his stakeholder management, training, and process improvement skills, and is regularly called upon as a subject matter expert on complex technical issues.

Bhanu joined MCI in August 2022 as an Analyst Developer and is leveraging his data engineering skills in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data infrastructure and systems in cloud technologies.

He has extensive experience as a technical lead on property and casualty, as well as healthcare insurance projects. He has successfully managed large-scale transformation projects, transitioning from legacy to cloud technologies. He shifted his career focus to the field of data technologies and possesses extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of data analysis, data modeling, and data visualization. Bhanu has Masters Degree in Data Science and Analytics from the University of Hertfordshire.

Cam holds a degree in Human Geography from the University of Exeter, specialising in Political Mapping, Arab Nationalism and Islamic studies.

In 2021 she transitioned into Underwriting at Chubb Global Markets where she honed her skills across all Fine Art & Specie disciplines, and then joined MCI in June 2025.

Prior to that, he worked at Chaucer Syndicates as an underwriter within the Cargo & Specie team. Chris has a track record of outperforming Lloyd’s market average profitability and has been involved with several market committees and initiatives during the last 18 years.

In 2000, Dan began his career at Aon in London, and moved to Paragon in 2004. In 2007 Dan joined QBE to work as an Underwriter within the Medical liability team where he was responsible for the day to day underwriting of the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, and Clinical Trials account on a global basis. Dan was promoted to Portfolio Manager of the Medical Liability account in 2014 where his responsibility was further extended to the Medical Malpractice account.

Daniel is a seasoned claims professional with extensive London Market and broking house experience, specialising in Casualty, Property, Liability, Accident & Health, and Financial Lines. He has managed complex and high-value losses across multiple jurisdictions and markets, including Lloyd’s and company platforms. His expertise spans handling binding authority and open market claims, overseeing TPAs, loss adjusters, and lawyers, and providing detailed performance and MI reporting to senior management and clients.

Daniel has led teams in both broking and claims environments, with strong skills in mentoring, process improvement, and account analysis. He holds a Cert CII qualification and brings a strong client-focused approach to claims management.

Dev brings nearly 15 years of broking experience with Lloyd’s brokers in the London market, following few years in the technology sector within banking in Mumbai. He gained valuable cross-class experience at a niche independent broker specializing in Marine, Energy, Political Violence and Reinsurance for almost five years. In 2015, Dev joined Willis Crisis Management, where he progressed to Executive Director and Deputy Head of the Terrorism and Political Violence Team. In this capacity, he held global responsibility for a substantial team of brokers, overall strategy, managing distribution, business production, thought leadership initiatives and operational functions.

With over 40 years experience in the cargo and transport liability insurance markets, Graham has wide ranging and international experience.  Joining at the end of 2025 following ten years at Chaucer Syndicate as class underwriter building a very large portfolio entirely from scratch.

Graham was previously employed as Head of Cargo at T T Club where he provisioned the clubs first online cargo insurance product and also was employed by NMU and Allianz Cornhill previously.

Graham will focus on collaborative opportunities and bespoke solutions within the Cargo, Logistics and Transportation lines.

Harry started his insurance career in 2017 as an account handler for an independent Lloyd’s broker, eventually progressing his way up to a delegated binder underwriter during his five-year tenure. In 2022 Harry moved to Starr Insurance Companies taking up a role as an assistant underwriter on their international casualty team.

Eighteen months later Harry joined MCI as an assistant underwriter and has naturally progressed into the role of an international casualty underwriter in 2025, with a focus primarily on Canadian, Australian, Latan and European business, specialising in construction, mining and SME market areas.

James has held senior roles at Premia Re, StarStone/Enstar, and previously worked on delegated authority, run-off, and systems improvement projects. He combines deep technical knowledge of Lloyd’s and company market processes (A&S, ECF2, TRAX, Sequel, Blueprint 2) with a strong focus on operational efficiency and client service. Recognised for his ability to innovate (including fee-collection system improvements) and maintain robust broker and underwriter relationships, James brings a wealth of market expertise and leadership to the claims team.

She has 11 years of scientific laboratory-based research experience and previously worked at King’s College London as an immunologist studying Ebola virus and SARS-CoV-2. Lauren has a BSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Arizona and a PhD in Immunology from King’s College London.

Mark is recognised for his cradle-to-grave approach, ensuring early investigations, robust indemnity and liability assessments, and timely settlements. He has also authored claims and training manuals, contributed to system design for liability claims, and delivered consistent bordereaux and compliance reporting for carriers.

Previous roles include Cayton’s Law, Allianz, Gallagher Bassett, and Markerstudy, where he built expertise across both personal injury and casualty claims. Mark holds Cert CII and is known for his practical, proactive handling style and strong relationships with brokers, coverholders, lawyers, and policyholders.

Phil started his insurance career in 2000. In 2004 Phil moved to QBE to take up a role as pharmaceutical underwriter within the company operations. The role expanded over the next 10 years, initially into medical malpractice and management of the medical liability portfolio and then additionally into the International liability space where he was responsible for the Canadian liability portfolio. Phil established MCI in 2014.

Phil previously worked for Barbican’s Lloyds Syndicate 1955 where he was responsible for the oversight of MCI.

Vanessa brings over eight years of specialist experience in the Lloyd’s and environmental insurance market, supported by a strong academic background in environmental management. Before joining MCI, she held underwriting roles with leading Environmental teams at The Hartford and SCOR, focussed on EIL portfolio growth and strategic development across key regions.

At MCI, Vanessa is responsible for establishing and growing the syndicate’s new Environmental Impairment Liability practice, shaping underwriting strategy, and strengthening MCI’s casualty and environmental capabilities. Vanessa also leads MCI’s sustainability initiative and supports the syndicate’s ESG ambitions.

William joined MCI in February 2025 as a trainee data analyst in the operations team. After completing his A levels at the King John School he started his career in insurance.

He is keen to complete his CII qualifications and progress his career within the underwriting sector.
